Sample A Course in Math or Physics
April 23, 2013 or September 2013  
The Summer Semester for math and physics courses designed specifically for educators starts April 23. You don't have to be a matriculated student to take a course. Registrations and/or applications are also being accepted for the Fall Semester. Learn more about the degree programs or email the STEM Education Center to find out how to register. There is a 40% discount remission on standard graduate credit rates for all educators enrolled in a course or a program.   
 
Final Version of NGSS Released
The final set of Next Generation Science Standards has now been publically released. Massachusetts will determine what level of adoption to take. View the standards.

Water Rocket Competition Returns
On June 5, 2013 from 4-6:30 pm, the Department of Physics at WPI will hold its Annual Goddard Cup. Teams of students lead by a Team Leader are invited to blast-off in this exciting water rocket competition. Mentoring is available for the teams along with PDPs for Team Leaders. Goulet Reviews Milton Academy's Math Dept.
Professor John Goulet not only teaches undergraduate math classes, but he also runs the undergraduate Teacher Preparation program and oversees/teaches the math master's degrees for educators. In his spare time, he recently chaired a team of 6 people who reviewed Milton Academy's math department. Milton Academy, a private K-12 school, used the review to align its programs with new recruitment strategies. The review team was made up of Professor Goulet, two K-8 specialists, two high school specialists and a businessman. 

TouchTomorrow
WPI will host two special events for educators as part of TouchTomorrow 2013. The first, on June 6 from 4-6pm, is an afternoon with NASA educators and a special meeting with several robotics teams from the Centennial Challenge. The second, on June 7 from 9am-1pm, is the opportunity to bring your students on campus. Bus funding is available. Read more or contact Mia Dubosarsky.

George Washington Teachers' Institute

English Teachers' Series:  The English Studies Department at Fitchburg State University is pleased to offer a free, exciting professional development opportunity beginning on Thursday, March 28th. This is the first offering of a biweekly series that will run until June:

Core to College: The Transition from High School to College
Topics of discussion will include: transferring writing skills, close reading, argumentation,
information literacy, rhetorical awareness, revision, source use and logic.
Professional Development Points (PDPs) will be provided. Please note, participants must attend all sessions to be eligible for PDPs.
This series is sponsored by PARCC and the Central Massachusetts Readiness Center.
